Angry Duck, or Arga Ankan, which he is originally named (it means Angry Duck in Swedish and sounds better because it has two A’s instead of the English AD, which sounds like a) an advert b) Anno Domini in the year of our Lord) was born in Scotland in Easter 2005. It has nothing to do with Angry Birds, and it happens to be invented long time before those too, but that is unimportant.

Angry Duck is not cute, he is a brute, to use Bob Mortimer’s nice description. He is justice in a way, for all those times you have felt unfairly treated or someone has been horrible to you, and there was NOTHING you could do about it. Angry Duck is the vigilante who gets back at those meanies for you, and ridicules them. For let’s face it, there are a lot of people out there who doesn’t know how to treat other people right. He is meant to make people smile and just be a bit different to everything else out there. In different ways.

The first ever Angry Duck was drawn in the software called Paint (he is meant to look rough around the edges) when the illustrator creating him was working with phone support, and had to answer calls to a lot of rude and stupid people in the Nordic countries. A dream of being able to send an email with a drawing of a raging duck with fangs, huge eyebrows and various footwear saying “I know where you live” to the person who just gave you lots of abuse that you couldn’t answer to on the phone, just gives a deep feeling of satisfaction. Obviously this never happened, but the fantasy was always there, and so were the drawings.

Then people started liking Angry Duck, and he started going global with his peculiar taste in shoes and threatening ways. He is never mean to someone who doesn’t deserve it in some way though. And he is not a fan of violence, and is especially against racism and people who are mean to animals and kids.
